Product Introduction

An Introduction to PPR Piping: Raw Materials, Production, and Tips for Longevity

Polypropylene random (PPR) piping has become a popular alternative to traditional metal pipes for residential and commercial plumbing applications. PPR pipe offers benefits like corrosion resistance, low thermal conduction, and straightforward installation. This overview covers the key aspects of PPR piping, including the raw material properties, manufacturing process, machinery, and tips for maximizing lifespan.

The base material for PPR pipe is a specialized polypropylene polymer chosen for its high temperature tolerance, durability, and chemical resistance. The production process involves extrusion to form the pipe shape, cutting to length, and quality inspection. Automated equipment like extruders and cutters help improve efficiency and precision during manufacturing.

Proper maintenance is important for getting the most out of PPR piping. Recommendations include protecting against UV light exposure, avoiding contact with incompatible chemicals, installing inserts at connection points, and following manufacturer temperature and pressure ratings. With informed handling based on an understanding of its composition and performance characteristics, PPR can deliver reliable service life for residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing projects.

The Production Process

PPR pipes are using an extrusion process, which involves melting the raw material and forcing it through a die to create the desired shape. The extrusion process can break down into the following steps:

1. Mixing the raw material:

The PPR-C resin mix with additives such as stabilizers, antioxidants, and pigments to create a homogenous material.

2. Melting the raw material:

The mixed resin is then fed into an extruder, which heats the material until it melts into a viscous liquid.

3. Extruding the pipe:

The molten material is then forced through a die, which gives it its final shape and size. The extruded pipe is then cooled using a water bath, which helps it to solidify.

4. Cutting the pipe:

Once the pipe has extruded and cooled, cut to the desired length using a computer-controlled cutting machine.
